Diablo IV System Requirements and Install Size

Start with the line people skip: an SSD is required, and the game wants 90 GB.

That is not a suggestion. The Steam store page writes “SSD Required” in both the minimum and recommended notes. A mechanical drive will install it, but loading and zone transitions suffer badly.

Official requirements (checked 16 September 2026)

The minimum targets 1080p native, 720p render, low settings at 30fps; recommended targets 1080p, medium settings at 60fps.

Why the real footprint exceeds 90 GB

• Expansion content. Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred keep adding assets.
• High-resolution texture packs. Optional on console and PC, and large.
• Season patches and cache. Patch extraction needs temporary space on top, so leave 120 GB.

Blizzard has not published per-console sizes. Check the relevant store page and your console’s storage screen for the real number.

Before you download

1. Confirm the drive is an SSD with room to spare. 120 GB is a safer target.
2. Update your GPU driver. This also lowers the odds of a login-stage error, per the code 34202 guide.
3. Confirm a stable connection. The game is always online and has no offline mode.
4. Have a Battle.net account ready. Both a connection and an account are required.
5. Decide your settings direction. If your GPU is near the minimum, protect frame rate by lowering shadows and effects.

Three common mistakes

• Checking the GPU and ignoring the SSD. The spec sheet makes the SSD mandatory.
• Using a mechanical drive for space. It runs, but loading and door-heavy areas crawl.
• Skimping on memory. 8 GB is the floor; 16 GB stutters far less in practice.
